MTIC conforms to all laws and regulations of Colorado, which
is the only state where we operate.
The State of Colorado does not have massage therapy regulations. They
have an exemption act which exempts graduates from an approved school
from the massage parlor code. Each city has their own regulations, which
is called Home Rule. The City of Denver has a local ordinance of the
municipal code regulating massage therapists; Article ll – Sec.
33.5-21. Unlawful acts and Sec. 33.5-22. Registration. It is unlawful
for any person to perform massage therapy unless that person is registered
with the department of excise and licenses.
Anyone planning to operate as a massage therapist should contact the
authorities in the area in which they plan to practice to ascertain the
regulations of that area.
A copy of the Denver ordinance is given to each student enrolled at
the school. In addition, the students are informed that the AMTA, ABMP,
and the Massage Magazine publish current legislative updates on the regulations
in each state.
