Mission Statement

Our mission is to train massage therapy professionals who are skilled in the professional application of Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Neuromuscular-Trigger Point Therapy, Myofascial Therapy and Reflexotherapy. The professionals will be compassionate, ethical, and knowledgeable massage therapists who can communicate effectively with their clients and other health care providers about the benefits and use of massage therapy as an important healing art.

School Philosophy

At Massage Therapy Institute of Colorado (MTIC) we encourage each student to discover and develop his or her unique potential as a massage therapist through teaching each student effective massage skills. This is accomplished through a carefully developed sequence of classroom and clinical training that is guided by experienced practitioners who are dedicated to teaching students about the use and benefits of massage therapy.

We know massage is an important healing art useful for reducing stress, relieving pain, enhancing wellbeing and improving the quality of life. A skilled therapist is capable of providing massage that relaxes the body and relieves clients of stress, tension and pain. This in turn can heighten an individual's awareness of physical, mental and emotional processes and as such can provide opportunities for personal growth, transformation and healing. At MTIC we are honored to share our knowledge with students as they begin their journey into the healing art of massage therapy.

History of MTIC

MTIC originated in 1986-87 when Mark Manton started massage training for a group of clients and nurses who wanted to learn the massage therapy methods he used for the successful treatment of chronic pain and injuries. The initial massage training required 500 classroom hours and 500 hours of massage practice homework. MTIC became a Colorado state approved program in 1987-88 and became a Colorado corporation in 1990.

Since 1987 over 1200 students have attended MTIC to study the massage methods, which form the core techniques that students learn in the year one Certified Massage Therapist (CMT) Program. The year one CMT program focuses on the use of Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Neuromuscular Therapy, Myofascial Therapy and Reflexotherapy for the treatment of chronic pain and injuries and for the numerous benefits massage therapy offers for relaxation, health and well-being.

Currently the training at MTIC requires 616 classroom hours and 160 hours of massage practice for completion of the first year Certified Massage Therapist program.

Since 1989 MTIC has also offered a second year 300 hour advanced training for qualified graduates and CMTs who are interested in learning Myofascial Therapy in combination with joint mobilization and acupressure for correction of postural and pain problems and for increasing overall health and well-being.
